Dragons Junior Basketball 2023

Hi Everyone, 

I hope you have all been safe and well over the summer period. 

The start of the 2023 Dragons Basketball season is not far away. Our team of Junior coaches are ready for another fun-filled season and are excited to see the stadium full of Dragons kids once again! 

Please find the first half of the practice schedule attached below. Please note: 

• First Practice and AGM on Sunday 23 April 2023 
• We will be at Te Rauparaha Arena in Porirua on Sunday 25 June 2023 
• Dragons Miniball Funday on Sunday 2 July 2023 (first weekend of the school holidays) 

Registration for the 2023 season is open via our website (https://dragons.org.nz/register).  

Please ensure you complete your registration and payment BEFORE the first practice. Its important all registration fields are completed accurately as this information is critical for our planning and comms distribution. Please come to the first practice at 9.30am so we can sign everyone in and check your details before practice starts.  

If this is your Child’s first season with the club, you do not need to register immediately. Please feel free to attend the first practice to gauge how they like it. You can register after that if they wish to continue attending and join the club.  

Pre-ordered Dragons Apparel will be available for collection at the first practice.  

Most practices this year will be spread over all 5 courts at Walter Nash. Tiniball and Miniball have been allocated 2 courts each and will alternate practices using either courts 1 and 2 in the new stadium, or courts 4 and 5 in the back stadium.  

Please note the following age grades: 

• Biniball – 3-5 years old. Parental supervision essential. 
• Tiniball – 5-7 years old 
• Miniball – 8 years old to school year 6 
• Intermediates – School years 7 and 8 

Please ensure your child starts the season in their allocated grade. Ages are as at 31 December 2022. If appropriate, some children may be asked to move up or down a grade at the sole discretion of the coaches involved. 

Please ensure your children attend in appropriate sporting attire - Shorts, T-shirts and sports shoes. E.g Jeans and dresses are not suitable. Please bring drink bottles.  

New members are welcome, but please be aware that if they wish to participate in local Chinese Junior Tournaments they will need to complete the All of Clubs (AoC) eligibility process. This is an eligibility process that all Wellington Chinese-based basketball clubs have agreed upon to ensure participants in these tournaments meet the eligibility criteria.
